Monitoring your breathing with a lung function test
To improve your breathing, it is important to monitor your respiratory and pulmonary condition – in the short and long term. You can easily do this yourself by performing a lung capacity test every day, with a peak flow meter or a spirometer (depending on your condition). In our online store you will find several models from renowned brands such as Philips and Vitalograph. They are safe and easy to use if you clean them properly.
Peak flow meter vs. spirometer
Conducting a pulmonary function test is recommended for people with chronic lung and respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. A peak flow meter measures the force of your breathing (PEF) in liters per minute. A digital and portable spirometer is more advanced and measures the most important spirometry values such as the FEV1, the FEV6 and the FEV1/FEV6 ratio. A peak flow meter is suitable for people with asthma; a spirometer for people with COPD, cystic fibrosis or people who have undergone a lung transplant. Personal Best
The products have a useful color system that allows you to monitor your values at a glance. Thanks to the different colors you can see whether your lung condition is about the same, less than or much less than normal. "Normal" refers here to your "Personal Best", namely the best values that you have blown before you started monitoring for the very first time. If necessary, a doctor or healthcare provider can help you with setting your Personal Best. The Asma-1 and Lung Monitor from Vitalograph have an internal memory that securely stores your data.
