How to install the app
There are different versions of the Smart Peak Flow. You can connect your devices to each other wirelessly and hold the peak flow meter in your hand using the included handle (or the audio jack) if you choose the Bluetooth version. Download the free app and start managing your asthma! The other version is not wireless but uses the audio jack of your smartphone or tablet: simply plug the Smart Peak Flow into the audio jack! Please note that you’ll need an adapter if your smartphone doesn’t have an audio jack. Consult your smartphone manual for more information.
TIP: use the Smart Asthma app on your smartwatch and get notified when you need to measure your peak flow!
The Smart Peak Flow is a very useful device that allows you to gain insight into your lung capacity for the next day. If you also fill in how often you use your inhalator, the app will be able to predict asthma attacks. Are you going to measure your peak flow? Take a deep breath and blow powerfully into the mouthpiece. It is the speed and force of your exhaled breath that counts, not the length of it. After blowing, the peak expiratory flow (PEF) appears in liters per minute. You’ll also see how this result relates to your "Personal Best", the best value you have blown up to that point. The app asks you to perform three blows and will save the highest of those values as the result. Depending on your result, the "traffic light" will be green (asthma under control), amber (caution) or red (medical emergency).
The app automatically saves your daily results. This helps you to monitor your lung function over a longer period of time: weekly, quarterly or annually. Would you like to perform a peak flow measurement on different locations and compare the results (at home, at work, during exercise…)? Then give the app access to your location.
"Download – Blow – Track – Share!"
The app of the Smart Peak Flow is available in 25 languages and compatible with both Android and iOS. It is recommended to perform a peak flow measurement twice a day: in the morning and in the evening. The app will remind you with a notification at a time of your choice. Would you like to have an overview of your results (Peak Expiratory Flow, Personal Best and Personal Best percentage) and share it with your healthcare professional? No problem. Just create a PDF or CSV file with the app!
